We watch your pet walk and turn, then work joint by joint by hand for heat, swelling, instability and the point that hurts. On a knee, the drawer test often says more than the film.

Imaging on-site
Digital X-rays the same visit, usually under light sedation so the limb can be positioned properly without pain. Ultrasound is added when the problem looks soft-tissue rather than bony.

Pre-anesthetic blood work
Kidney and liver values, red cells and clotting, run in our own laboratory before anything is booked. Same-day results — and they can change the anesthetic plan or postpone it.

What actually injures pets in this city

Falls from balconies and windows
The most common trauma we see in cats. They often survive the fall and still arrive with a fractured jaw, split palate or broken pelvis. A fly screen is not a barrier.

The problems we see, and the pets they turn up in
Orthopedic disease is not random — size, breed and age predict most of it, which is half the reason a lameness exam reaches the answer quickly. It is not a diagnosis, but it tells us what to film first.
- Cruciate rupture — mid-size and large dogs, often carrying extra weight, after a fast turn or a jump. The story is nearly always a yelp during play, then a back leg carried
- Luxating patella — small and toy breeds: Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, toy Poodles, Yorkies. The sign is a skipping hop for a few strides, then normal walking again
- Fractures — cats after a fall from a balcony or window, dogs after a car. Puppies break legs jumping off furniture an adult would land from easily
- Growth-plate problems in puppies, arthritis in seniors — large breeds under a year for hips and elbows; stiffness after rest in older dogs, and cats past ten that stop jumping onto the sofa
A limp that should not wait until tomorrow
A mild limp that is gone by morning can wait a day. These cannot — book the same day, or after hours call the emergency line.

Common questions
How do I know if my dog's limp is serious?
A limp that lasts more than 24 to 48 hours, or comes with swelling or obvious pain, needs an examination. A leg held completely off the ground, or any limp that follows a fall or a car, should be seen the same day rather than watched overnight.
My dog suddenly can't use a back leg after playing. What is it?
Most often a torn cruciate ligament — the dog version of an ACL injury — and it needs an exam and X-rays to confirm. An unstable knee develops arthritis quickly, so the sooner it is assessed the more options are still open.
What is patella luxation, and does it always need surgery?
It is a kneecap slipping out of its groove, and the giveaway is a skipping hop for a few strides before normal walking returns. Mild grades are often managed with weight control and monitoring; higher grades usually do better with corrective surgery. We grade it during the lameness exam and tell you honestly which side of that line your dog sits on.

How long does recovery take after surgery?
Most soft-tissue incisions heal in about 10 to 14 days with rest and the cone kept on. Orthopedic surgery is longer — usually several weeks of restricted activity, sometimes with follow-up X-rays before exercise is increased. You go home with a written recovery plan and a scheduled check-up, and Dubai adds one rule: keep it cool, because heat and humidity slow wound healing and make pets lick at the site.
