A dog license in Dubai is issued by Dubai Municipality, and the application rests on veterinary documents you cannot produce on the day you decide to apply. The microchip has to be implanted and readable, the rabies vaccination has to be current, and the certificate has to carry the same number the chip does.

The certificate carries a date, and every other document in the file is written after it. That date is the first thing we look at in the visit.

The examination a file rests on is our standard consultation at AED 120. The two vaccination packages are not the same package: the AED 199 first vaccination package covers the microchip, the passport and a first viral vaccine, while the AED 199 annual package is the one that carries the rabies vaccine. Which of them your dog needs depends on what he has had already, so we read the record before booking anything. A single viral vaccine on its own is AED 80. Dogs brought into the UAE, or adopted here, may already carry a chip and part of a vaccination history. We read the chip and the record first — rebuilding paperwork that already exists is wasted money and wasted time.
If there is no chip, it goes in during the visit. If there is one, we scan it and check the number against the documents you brought.
The vet examines your dog and records what is found. This is also where anything that would make vaccination unwise on the day — a fever, an active infection, a skin problem — is picked up before it becomes a delay.
The rabies vaccine is given if it is due, and the certificate is issued against the chip number. Where he is already covered, we confirm the date still stands rather than repeat a vaccine he does not need.

The rules here are built around two things: identifying the animal and controlling rabies — and they are the reason the checks below exist.
The permit, the fee and the renewal window are the Municipality's. What we supply is the veterinary documentation — the current requirements are published by the authority.
The rabies certificate is valid only to the date printed on it. After that date the vaccine has to be given again, and the file is written against the new date.
Nothing here is filed against a name. The chip number is the key every record hangs on, and an unreadable or unregistered chip has to be sorted before the file can go in.
A dog passed between owners in Dubai can arrive with a chip registered to somebody unreachable and a vaccination history nobody can verify. Sorting that takes an appointment, not a phone call.
Dogs that flew in with their families arrive with a foreign chip and a foreign certificate. Both have to be checked here rather than taken on trust — the chip scanned to confirm it reads, and the record read against what is expected locally.
A license satisfies the Municipality and nothing else. Your landlord, your building and your community may each have rules of their own, and they are not connected to it.
A vaccination date cannot be backdated, so the veterinary documents are the part to start with.

The veterinary exercise is the same for a cat as for a dog: the animal is identified by a microchip, the rabies vaccination is brought up to date, and the certificate is issued against the chip number rather than against a name. Which authority you then file with depends on the emirate you live in. The chip number does not change when you move, so a record built here keeps pointing at the same animal wherever it is later read.
Yes — keeping a dog in Dubai is a permitted activity rather than an assumed one, and the permit is tied to identification and rabies control. Where owners get caught is the veterinary half: the rabies vaccination the file was built on carries an expiry date, and once that date passes nothing can be signed to bring it back. A record that was complete two years ago may not be complete today. How long the permit itself runs, and when it has to be renewed, is published by the Municipality — read it there. If you are unsure where your dog stands, a records check is a single appointment.
Order matters more than speed. The microchip goes first, because every later document is written against its number; then the health examination; then the rabies vaccination and its certificate. Get the veterinary side finished before you open the application. That means a microchip that scans cleanly, an in-date rabies vaccination, and a certificate carrying the same chip number as the vaccination card — with the dog's name and date of birth written identically on both, so the two documents describe the same animal. A dog that arrived from abroad needs one extra check: the foreign chip has to be scanned here to confirm it reads, and its number carried across into the local record so the two documents do not describe two different animals.
That figure is the Municipality's to set and publish, and it can change, so we will not print a number that may be out of date by the time you read it. What we can price is the veterinary half of a renewal: the rabies booster, when that is what has lapsed. It sits inside the <strong>AED 199</strong> annual vaccination package, together with the examination, a core viral vaccine and deworming. A single viral vaccine on its own is <strong>AED 80</strong>, and a consultation to review the record is <strong>AED 120</strong>.
